The 2011 Ride Around the World Tour
Just Imagine! Riding your Harley-Davidson Motorcycle back to the time of the Old West and the Civil War with the OUTLAWS & INFANTRY! Over hill, over dale
As we RIDE the dusty trail,
And those HARLEYS go ROARING along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Counter march and right about,
And those HARLEYS go ROARING along.
Then it's hi! hi! hee!
In the field artillery,
Shout out your numbers loud and strong,
For where e'er you go,
You will always know
That those HARLEYS go ROARING along.
Music and Lyrics by Edmund L. Gruber Are you ready to ride? Welcome to McHenry County IL H.O.G.’s 2011 Ride-Around-The-World Tour, “OUTLAWS & INFANTRY.” After another successful year’s Ride-Around-the-World-Tour, “American Liberty Adventure”, McH.O.G. members are set to embark on a historic, season-long ride throughout the Old West and Eastern USA, to the home of the Outlaw and the battlefields of the Civil War. This year’s World Tour will be exploring the early history of the USA through five distinct types of riding fun. Pathfinder, Patrol, Cannonball Run, Overnight Encampments and Campaigns and Reveille rides fill our 2011 season’s calendar, a long with Bike Bingo, a season-long running game. From the wild and wooly mining camps, to the rampages of the Civil War, to the many cowboys riding on the range, It’s going to be a real shindig (as they say in the Old West) of a season, so start making your plans now.
“Pathfinder” Rides - Rides which are of a shorter length and that end at the destination.
You will be riding to a specific place or event somehow relatedto a historic American event, person or place. In the past RC’s have led rides to restaurants, the zoo, sporting events, museums, ball parks & musical events, parades, memorials, festivals, etc. This year you can add two Civil War Reenactments, a Wild Bill Hickok Day, a civil war museum, a wild west town, an orchard and many other destinations and activities to the list. And of course, we won’t forget a beautiful, fun route with lots of nice scenery and smooth sealed blacktop too! Award mile 2,000 each and we currently have more than 27 Pathfinder Rides planned this year.
Patrol” Rides- America The Beautiful”
with many rural routes, taking in lots of scenery i.e., lakes, rivers, streams, Rustic Roads, Scenic Byways, Scenic Overlooks, etc. These rides may also include an interesting destination somewhere along the way. A ride of 3-5 hours or more. Award miles 3,000 each and we currently have about 10 Patrol Rides planned for 2011.
“Cannonball Run” Rides - These are full-day “endurance rides of 250 miles or more”. Cannonball Run means riding and riding and then riding some more. Award miles-4,000 and we have 7 such rides planned this year. Overnight “Encampments” and Summer/Fall “Western & Eastern Campaigns” - Rides that are overnight, “out into the frontier, the wild blue yonder,” as they said in the old days. Without a doubt, McHenry Co IL H. O. G. is the best touring Chapter in Illinois and we have a full calendar of great Encampments planned for this season. Moreover, we are hosting an 11-day long “Outlaws Summer Campaign Ride West ” in July. The route will start out aiming for the Colorado Rockies and head over Trail Ridge Road, the Continental Divide, with stops in Grand Lake, CO for fireworks on the 4 of July; a ride up the highest paved road in North America (over 14,000 feet) to the top of Mt. Evans; Moab, Utah and Arches National Park; the old western mining towns of Telluride, CO, Durango, CO, the San Juan Skyway thru America’s Little Switzerland, Ouray, CO, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and more ... returning thru Sturgis, SD for 2 nights in the Black Hills, before heading home. Later in September, our 9-day “Infantry Fall Campaign Ride East” is a grand tour beginning with a stop near Fort Knox, KY to commemorate 9-11-11, before riding through Bourbon Country and the Daniel Boone NF. From there the ride will continue, stopping at Civil War Battlefields and other POI’s throughout West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania before turning west to Ohio, Indiana and home. Stops will include the Allegheny NF and Mountain Range, the Shenandoah and Blue Mountains, Appomattox Courthouse National Historic Park, Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson), Skyline Drive to Harpers Ferry NP, Gettysburg NP, the Harley-Davidson plant in York, PA, Independence National Historic Park and the Liberty Bell, in Philadelphia, PA, a ride on the historic Lincoln Highway to Chocolate Town USA, Hershey, PA, and more. There are about 9 Encampments at 5,000 award miles for each overnight spent out of town (max. 10,000 total per Encampment Ride), plus the 2 longer Campaign Rides, at 25,000 award miles each, planned for 2011!
“Reveille” Rides - These are last minute rides, spur of the moment, hooky rides and some otherwise unplanned rides for sustenance. Watch for e-mail blasts a day or two in advance. These rides try to take advantage of the unexpected, i.e., nice weather, a quick dinner, maybe a new and exciting destination, something that just popped up. We hope to have many “Reveille” Rides this season! 1,500 award miles will be granted for each “Reveille” Ride.
Additional Credits Earned - A Bike Bingo Game, located towards the back of this program, will acknowledge your participation or volunteering in a wide variety of Chapter/Dealer events. Members will be filling in their game squares by attending Chapter General Meetings, Safety Meetings, other Chapter rides and events, and volunteering for the Chapter’s Heart Dance, Dealer Demo rides and events, etc. As one’s game card fills-in, you will earn bonus miles towards year-end prizes and award credits. Furthermore, we are highlighting the fact that we are riding with Outlaws & Infantry during our “Pathfinder”, “Patrol”, “Cannonball Run,” “Reveille”, “Encampment” and “Campaign” rides throughout the season. The description and rules of the Bike Bingo Game are explained later on in this PASSPORT.
We hope to see everyone riding with the Outlaws & Infantry for it will be the best season yet, at McHenry Co IL H.O.G.-don’t you miss out on all the fun! But wait! “THE TOUR” is also a contest! In addition to planning out a great ride, we will also be giving away some prizes and rewarding participants with some real $$$ as well. Each ride participant will accumulate the award or bonus mileage traveled for every ride or event on “THE TOUR.” At the end of “THE TOUR,” a Grand Prize will be awarded at the Annual Christmas Party to the individual Chapter member who has accumulated the most award/bonus miles. Our Chapter’s newsletter, the McH.O.G. Happenings, will regularly post the top 10 riders and their accumulated award mileage during the peak of the season of “THE TOUR.” The Pièce de Résistance, your “officially logged” award mileage will convert, at the end of “THE TOUR,” into $$$ towards future purchases at Woodstock and McHenry Harley-Davidson®. With over 250,000 award miles available to each member, at an exchange rate of $1.00 for every 1,000 award miles earned, we are talking about some serious $$$, close to $100,000.00 in potential awards chapter wide. Many thanks go out to Woodstock and McHenry Harley-Davidson® for their continued support!

A rider must ride and complete 75% of the planned route to receive award credit. A ‘caged’ ride due to weather or other special circumstances also qualifies. The Chapter’s Board will decide upon any and all discrepancies.
Please browse the following pages and mark your calendar with these important ride and event dates. Try to attend as many of the events as you can. There is quite a variety available; some long, some short, some for the day, some overnight, some very inexpensive, others a little more costly but all well worth it! It’s up to you to decide, the good news is-there are a lot of choices available-something for everyone’s interests!
